5.5 magazine
We directed the launch of “5.5magazine,” a new cultural free-paper based in Shizuoka City, which premiered in December 2025.
The magazine’s concept centers on a 5.5km corridor connecting two distinct cultural hubs: “Sunpu no Kobo Takumishuku,” an artisan workshop preserving the history of the Tokaido post station and traditional crafts, and “Hitoyado-cho Ninjo-dori,” a spirited street known for its diverse local shops. “5.5magazine” functions as a cultural guidebook that navigates between the two seemingly contrasting themes of “Craft”—the essence of manufacturing and artisanship—and “Taste”—the expression of food culture and aesthetic values.
The publication is uniquely engineered with a dual-front-cover format, allowing it to be read from either side. At its center, a comprehensive map provides a bird’s-eye view of the entire district, designed to give readers a visual and intuitive sense of the town’s structure and scale. By integrating both local and external viewpoints, the magazine offers an in-depth exploration of the people, culture, and history behind each location, presenting a multi-dimensional portrait of the city through evocative photography and refined narrative.
